'Toontime: Money Talks

Thursday's decision from the Supremes, (Citizens United v. FEC), on "free speech" culminates a century of precedent {8.29.09} guaranteeing the dominance of the Money Power in our political process.  The conservatives on the court threw out decades of rules preventing corporations from influencing political campaigns by direct spending. This reactionary judicial activism caused Senator McCain (R-AZ), co-author of campaign contribution reform legislation known as the McCain-Feingold bill, to declare federal campaign finance legislation "dead". Perhaps American democracy is too, as we inch ever closer to a fascist police state.
